Manufacturing Processes That Are Eco-Excellent

Every year we fashion 8,000,000 board feet of hardwood into butcher blocks of distinction and beauty.
So, respect for our resources comes naturally to our forest stewardship team.

There is a lot of talk about being “green” lately. We have been green for over 100 years.

Back in 1904, when we “upgraded” our plant, Fred Schmitt, the company president, had the brilliant idea to burn and reuse our waste wood to heat the plant and fire our mammoth kilns. So, we installed big furnaces and boilers and we have been toasty ever since.

Through the years we have made it priority to keep our shops outfitted with state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment: computer-aided cutting equipment that minimizes wood waste; an ultraviolet finishing system that virtually eliminates the release VOC’s; a gluing system that uses radio frequency to speed drying time; and the use of natural finishes like, Emmet’s Elixir, a food-safe combination of beeswax and mineral oil.

A sustainable, healthy forest is high on our list of priorities.

Otherwise, we’d put ourselves out of a job. The forest management team of the Wood Welded® Companies manages many acres of timber on our company-owned tracts of land. Everyday we walk the line between sensible harvest and managed re-growth. Simply stated, we give back to the land what we take.

We are also working with timber companies like the Weyerhaeuser® Company to pioneer the use of new ‘hardwoods’ like plantation grown Lyptus. Renewable, functional and beautiful, we have developed a complete line of Wood Welded EcoLyptus® products.

Our eye on sustainability is one more reason we know we’ll be in the business of wood for good.
