The Original Butcher Block Meat Block

The Monarch Butcher Block is the original butcher block and is the flagship of our line. First brought to market in 1881 it was the first of it's kind in the world. Today this can still be said. The Monarch Butcher Block is manufactured with the interlocking "double dovetail" which is unique to our product line.

For a more detailed history of the Double Dovetail and the machine which creates this unique in the world feature follow the link below.

Butcher Block as an Island

In years past the Monarch Butcher Block was exclusively used by the meat cutting industry. Today the use of the block has expanded to include many homes. Besides being functional the block has a "gathering" quality. When guests are in your home the striking presence of a Wood Welded Solid Northern Hard Maple Monarch Block is sure to start conversations and soon a gathering will form around the block. In today’s plastic and veneer world it is heartening to know that something is what it is not something masquerading as something else. Our butcher blocks are all natural and solid though and though...ingredients - wood.

The Original Butcher Block

The Double Dovetail

The story of the Double Dovetail starts 100 years ago when the technology of the day was applied to the manufacture of the Monarch Butcher Block. To the left you see a picture of the top of a modern Wood Welded Butcher Block. If this picture was compared to the top of a Monarch Block of 100 years ago the configuration would be the same. In fact the actual machine used 100 years ago is still in operation at our Bally Pennsylvania plant. The Monarchs heritage is alive and well and in this world of high tech silicone chips and satellite communication it is comforting to know there are some things that stay the same
