The "Double Dovetail" is in many ways part of the culture of Michigan Maple Block Co. and Bally Block Co.. Is has a long and illustrious history with our companies. It also still holds and honored position and is featured on two products in the Wood Welded Butcher Block line the Monarch Block and Island Encounters.
In the final analysis the double dovetail is a way of joining two pieces of wood together and yet the beauty of the this joinery is obvious. Functionally the dovetail locks the "planks" together and with the addition of an adhesive welds the wood together.
To achieve this joint we use "The Linderman" which tools both the male and female edges, applies the glue and slides each individual piece together. Beyond this, the machine also tapers the dovetails so that as the pieces slide together resistance is increased until it is virtually impossible to separate the planks. The Linderman was first introduced in 1905 by The Muskegon Tool Works. We currently maintain our 1911 version with spare parts from retired machines. We know of no other Linderman in operation anywhere in the world and therefore the only place to find the double dovetail is from the Wood Welded Companies.
